Using Your Voice During Your Job Interview

INTERVIEW TIPS - THE PHONE INTERVIEW 5

The next step is to have a pen and some writing material in front of you. The purpose is for taking down notes and key points. Make it a habit to take down notes and you can use them for reference in the in-person interview.
Another thing to be aware of - make sure you are in a quiet place. Turn off any background noise like radio, music player, television. Such background noise can distract and can bother the interviewer on the other end of the phone line.

INTERVIEW TIPS - THE PHONE INTERVIEW 3 - TYPICAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Before I blog on another aspect of Dos on the topic of The Phone Interview, I would like to give examples of some typical questions interviewers pose during the initial phone interview. Some readers have asked me to include some. Typical questions that are commonly asked are:
1. Tell me why do you want to leave your current position?
2. How did you lose your last job?
3. How much are you now earning?
4. Are you able to relocate? How soon?
5. Why do you want to work for XYZ Company?
6. Elaborate on your key areas of expertise.
7. Do you have any achievement? Can you tell me more?
8. What salary would you expect from us?
9. Can you start work  in two weeks' time?

iNTERVIEW TIPS - THE PHONE INTERVIEW 2 - DOs

The first thing to do is to identify a list of typical questions that are likely to be asked during the initial phone interview. This list can vary. It's good to do some research and ask around for clues and examples of such questions.
Next prepare in advance and prepare well by compiling a list of your strengths and weaknesses and achievements in relation to the typical interview questions.
Next rehearse the scenario a few times till you are able to answer questions naturally and convincingly.

INTERVIEW TIPS - THE PHONE INTERVIEW 1

Most hiring managers and recruiters I spoke to stressed on the importance they placed on PHONE INTERVIEWS. Unfortunately, this is something most job seekers and career changers simply ignore. If you fall into this category, think again - you need a mindset change. Many organisations now use the phone interview - the initial phone interview to determine the best qualified candidates for job opportunities. They use this method to separate the weed from the wheat.
Jobseekers should instead take this golden opportunity to make a great first impression and note you have only one single chance to make that impression that can lead you to an in-person interview. And this means, you are a step closer to that dream job.
So, take the phone interview seriously. And remember, your phone can ring any time. Stand by and be ready to answer it with a voice and tone that can lead you to the in-person interview.
I shall discuss the dos and don'ts of phone interviews over a series of articles here in this blog.

LOCAL TALENTS FOR SINGAPORE BANKS

SUCCESSFUL RESUMES SINGAPORE
The Straits Times headlined on Tuesday, 4 June 2013 "Banks push for local talent pool." "Focus on building a Singapore core."
Wonderful news indeed! It's about time Singaporeans be given the first bite. We have the talent and expertise. They should be given the opportunity and challenge to showcase their talent and passion for the banking profession. Our universities and polytechnics offer cutting-edge banking and finance training and these programmes are rated amongst the world's best.
So, before a position is offered to a foreigner, banks should ask themselves if a Singaporean can fill that role.
Foreigners will find looking for banking positions in Singapore very challenging. Therefore, the need for an outstanding and customised resume that showcases your innate talent is more compelling than ever before.
