National newspaper 'The Straits Times' carried this headline in today's edition [26 May 2014] "Degree Holders Most Vulnerable to Retrenchment'. This is quite scary. It further reported that 62% of those retrenched found jobs within a year. This further confirms my view that "There is no such a thing as job security."
Those with polytechnic diploma and professional qualifications have a slight advantage. 65% of them found jobs within a year and 71% of those with secondary education did find jobs within the same period.
The job market in Singapore is not quite rosy and there hosts of reasons why the retrenched find it much harder to find a job.
Two key factors that these people need to be aware of and understand are:
1. A strategic jobsearch plan
2. An outstanding, market-centric resume.
